The treatment takes place in the comfort of a specially equipped office, one on one with the cosmetologist after a consultation during which the specialist chooses the best IPL power and cooling settings.

To achieve full contact with the Lumecca handpiece, it is covered with a thin layer of a special gel. Contact cooling prevents the skin from heating and ensures the comfort of photothermolysis. During the procedure, you may feel a slight burning or prickling sensation in the area being treated.

It depends on the amount of work – from 5 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the size of the problematic skin area, the number and diameter of dilated blood vessels.

Before the photorejuvenation treatment (IPL-system LUMECCA®), a specialist will provide the patient with a diagnostic consultation and describe the procedure and its effectiveness. The treatment usually requires 4-6 sessions.

Avoid direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight or tanning a month before the treatment. Do not use self-tanners 2 weeks before the procedure. It is recommended to avoid saunas, swimming pools, or heat exposure for 48 hours before the session.

You will have to remove contact lenses before the treatment. If you have had a bioreinforcement procedure or a thread lift, this procedure must be performed at least 1 month after the previous procedure. If you have received hyaluronic acid fillers, botulotoxin A, or threads, this procedure must be performed at least 2 weeks after the previous procedure. You must not have taken oral retinoids for 6 months, antibiotics – for 2 weeks, anticoagulants – for 2 days before the treatment. You must not have used acid-based creams for 2 weeks and topical retinoids – for 1 month before the treatment.

You must tell your treating physician about any known illnesses, cosmetic procedures, surgeries you have had, medications you are taking, and any allergic reactions in advance.

Immediately after the procedure, you may experience erythema (redness) and oedema (swelling) of the skin, which is temporary. In rare cases, oedema and hyperaemia can persist for several days. After the removal of pigmentation spots, the pigment darkens and may stay darker for 24 hours. For the following week, the pigment is fragmented, and scaling takes place from day 7 to 10. After the spider vein removal procedure, you may also notice hyperaemia, oedema, the blood vessels may become lighter or darker. The recovery period is 10-14 days.

Recommendations for the recovery period

Avoid wetting the affected area for the first 24 hours. After the treatment and for 1 month after, use a sun protection cream with SPF 50+. The time you have to wait between the procedure and spending time in the sun is 1.5 months. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and indoor tanning salons. For the first days after the procedure, avoid alcohol and active physical activity. For the first week, avoid swimming pools, saunas, and any heat exposure. You can go back to using acid-based creams no sooner than 10 days after the procedure.

Lumecca can be used anywhere on the body. The most popular treatment areas are those which experience the most sun exposure – the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands, and forearms. Photorejuvenation using INMODE equipment has no seasonality. Vascular defects can be safely removed even when the Sun is the most active – in late spring or in the summer. We can work on pigmentation spots in summer too, provided that the patient follows the key rules for recovery – using creams and serums with a high SPF (at least 60).
